Biological Organization
This is supplemental material to a lecture that I provide to students taking my Cell Biology for Health Science course.
You don't need to be enrolled in this class to access the materials here. Anyone taking, teaching or interested in biology may find this material useful and is welcome to use it.

Learning Objectives / Study Guide
o What is the difference between life and nonlife? What processes are all organisms able to undergo?
o Cellular organisms vs. acellular particles…understand difference and be able to give examples.
o What are the basic tenets of cell theory?
o Understand the two basic types of cells and how they differ from each other.
o What is systematics and what kind of evidence to scientists use to categorize and classify living things?
o Know hierarchical classification taxonomic classification system starting at the most general level of kingdom (remember....King Philip?). Where do Domains fit in?
o Know the six kingdoms and what forms of life each represents. Know the three three domains and the forms of life each represents.
o Binomial nomenclature: Genus species; Know how to properly write the generic and specific name of a species.
